RUMBLE IN THE CITY

40 years after the "fight of the century", the Kinshasa ghetto still remembers the battle between Mohammad Ali and George Foreman on 30 October 1974. But although the "Rumble in the Jungle" is engraved in people's memories, the boxers who continue to train in the legendary but dilapidated Tata Raphaël Stadium now have to combat general indifference to their sport. It will take more than that to discourage the opponents who come to train every evening after school or work in the hope of a better future. On 28 June 2014, the former French world champion, Christophe Tiozzo, organized a boxing gala in homage to the famous fight, giving the top Congolese boxers their first international break.

40 ans après le "combat du siècle", la Cité à Kinshasa vibre toujours au souvenir de l'affrontement entre Mohamed Ali et George Foreman, le 30 octobre 1974. Mais si le "Rumble in the jungle" a laissé une trace profonde dans les mémoires, les boxeurs et les boxeuses qui s'entrainent toujours dans le mythique, et désormais délabré, stade Tata Raphaël, doivent aujourd'hui combattre l'indifférence dans laquelle leur sport est tombé. Il en faut plus pour décourager ces combattants qui viennent s'entrainer chaque soir après l'école ou le travail, dans l'espoir d'un avenir meilleur. Le 28 juin 2014, l'ancien champion du monde français Christophe Tiozzo organisait un gala de boxe en hommage au combat mythique, donnant ainsi une première chance internationale aux meilleurs boxeurs congolais.
